What is Hospice?
Answering the question, "what is hospice," is more simple than it sounds. Hospice is a specialized type of health care that provides a high level of assistance and support to individuals reaching the end of their life.
When an individual receives hospice service, the priority of their care is focused mainly on the treatment of pain and other symptoms rather than on the cause of the illness.
Hospice does not just address the medical needs of the patient or family. Hospice also addresses emotional, spiritual, and social needs as well.
Contrary to some misconceptions, there are no age qualifications for hospice services. Many people qualify for the 100% covered Medicare/Medicaid hospice benefit.
